This paper explores how augmented reality, eco-therapy and gamification technology can improve the well-being of Danish students. Through an analysis of the causes of stress, treatment of stress, target group, design and relevant technologies it was possible to begin the creation of a prototype. This application was tested and changed in several iterations with a main focus on user-centred design. The high-fidelity prototype was in the form of mobile application that would lead the user to specific locations in nature. Meanwhile it would utilize gamification theory and eco-therapy principles to create an interactive treasure hunt. The high-fidelity prototype was tested and received positive feedback. Both in terms of usability and as a proof of concept. However, further design iterations and more testing with the target group would be required to finalize the prototype.
Natural Treasures was a University project, it was an augmented reality (AR) android application with the idea of relieving stress through nature therapy. By guiding people on a treasure hunt and supplying puzzles that engaged them with the environment, we hoped to reduce stress levels particularly caused by work and living in a busy city.
